5 REASONS TO LOOK FORWARD TO WINTER IN DUNDAS
Initially published in 2014 (updated November 2023)

WINTER HAS COME EARLY THIS YEAR, AND YOU CAN'T AVOID MISSING IT! SO ENJOY WINTER WITH 5 AWESOME ACTIVITIES IN VALLEY TOWN

We moved to Dundas a second time, and it is still a fantastic town with wonderful people. It has been the best decision we've made twice, to move our family here. Here are just 5 reasons to get out and enjoy what Dundas offers.

1. FROZEN WATERFALLS

In previous years, you used to be able to ice climb at Tiffany Falls through two climbing organizations (Alipine Club of Canada and One Axe Pursuits); however, it currently seems like they both only offer climbs at Elora. However, you can still enjoy the visual splendour of the numerous waterfalls that Dundas has to offer.

2. SKATING and TOBOGGANING

If ice climbing is not your thing, there are other, more down-to-earth activities in Dundas during winter. Tobogganing can be done at several places, including The Driving Park and The Conservation area off Governor's Road. The Rail trail offers cross-country skiing, and other trails provide walking, hiking, snowshoeing and even Fatbikes. Skating (anticipated opening December 16) and nighttime walks are also enjoyable at The Driving Park and throughout town. And suppose you'd rather watch someone else do all the activities. In that case, The Dundas Real McCoys play Senior AAA hockey at the arena in town.

3. WINTERLICIOUS

If winter is too frightful, there are many places to get warm while winter stays outside. Food aplenty awaits you in Dundas. A short walk through town will highlight the many choices of variety for food in Dundas. I don't want to single out any particular place and leave out others, as they are all great. You will find many social media articles and posts featuring Dundas's fantastic culinary choices. To name just a few: chocolate, pastries, pub food, fish, Thai, Chinese, British, Indian, Mediterranean, Italian, fast food, pizza, European, Japanese, cafes, sweets, fine dining, vegan & vegetarian and casual. Dundas offers it all.

4. WARMING WINTER BEVERAGES

Like the many choices for food in Dundas, there are also some great choices for drinks. Restaurants, pubs, a brewery, and cafes offer excellent beer and wine options throughout town. Christmas festivities also provide free hot chocolate & cider offered by local businesses on certain days on the weekends in December.

5. DICKENS OF A CHRISTMAS

It starts with the 109th Anniversary of Canada's oldest Tree Lighting Ceremony, Friday, November 24th (6:30pm) at Memorial Square in downtown Dundas. Then, every Saturday and Sunday until December 17, Dickens of a Christmas offers free horse and carriage rides, Mr. Clause sightings, free local cider, photo opportunities with Candy Lane and Vintage Truck Holiday Photo Station, carolers, superheroes, along with musical and other special guests each weekend.

Check with the Downtown Dundas BIA for more information.
